my name is Kat
I am born and bred in the Hudson Valley of New York, Mahican territory. I’ve ran through these forests my whole life. I've traveled far and wide searching for someplace "better", but the further I went, the more lost I was...
I missed the oak trees, the wild streams, the black bear. I missed the dandelion, the mugwort, the summer thunder storms.
I’ve never danced barefoot on the land of my ancestors, perhaps I never will. I never thought of this place as home but as it turns out, it’s the only place I know. And I love it so very much, and it loves me right back.
And that's the wonderful thing about Mother Earth - when you love her deeply, she loves your right back.
So no matter where you are, you are always home.
I was initiated a Green Witch by herbalist and wise woman Susun Weed in 2018. I believe the most sustainable practice is using the plants that grow abundantly at my feet, rather than endangered species from around the world. My greatest teachers, besides the landscape itself, are Robin Rose Bennett, Aviva Romm, Rosemary Gladstar, Juliette de Bairacli Levy, 7Song, Stephen Harrod Buhner, Nicole Apelian and the like, as well as countless peers. All of the herbs I harvest come from the wild or my organic garden and if I must outsource, it will always be organic and typically from local gardens.
My intention is to serve my community.
To rekindle a deep, remembered connection between women and the earth. To create medicines that heal the whole.
To love my family and bring peace with me wherever I go.
